Employment Law

Employment law covers a complex network of state, federal, and local laws that control how employers must treat employees, former employees, and applicants for employment. We have had significant experience in interpreting and construing statutes and case law in all employment related areas. We represent employers, unions, and individual employees in many different types of employment related claims, including

  • Wrongful termination
  • Constitutional/civil rights claims (Section 1983 claims)
  • Family Medical Leave Act (FMLA) claims
  • Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) claims
  • Wage and hour claims
  • Contracts or agreements not to compete and
  • Severance agreements

In addition, we defend employers accused of wrongful discrimination. We also offer individuals a one-time review of their claim or discrimination, so that they may learn if their claim has any merit.

We represent both employers and unions on collective bargaining proceedings. Attorney Stuart Goldstein is an arbitrator, certified by the American Arbitration Association (AAA), and by the Federal Mediation and Conciliation Service (FMCS).

In addition to litigation and arbitration, we have also drafted employment contracts and employee handbooks or manuals for employers, especially small business employers. We review and negotiate numerous employment agreements and contracts, especially for physicians.

Aviation Law

Our aviation law practice focuses on the representation of pilots in certification and licensing proceedings before the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), the Department of Transportation (DOT), and the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB).

You worked hard to earn your license, or your certification, and you want to do everything you can to protect it. You probably are aware that an enforcement action, brought by a licensing board or agency, can put your license in jeopardy. This, in turn, puts your livelihood, your career, even your reputation in jeopardy.

If you are faced with action brought by a licensing board or agency, you need expert legal representation to protect the investment you have made in earning that license, and to protect all that goes along with it. At the Law Offices of Goldstein & Sordo, we have extensive experience in representing pilots and others (such as mechanics, repair stations, and others) in licensing and certification proceedings. Attorney Goldstein is former counsel to the Air Line Pilots Association International, and so has a strong background in certificate and licensing proceedings. Stuart is himself a pilot, and brings that insight with him.

In addition, Attorney Goldstein is a nationally recognized expert in the area of seniority list integration litigation in the airline industry, representing pilots, mechanics, and flight attendants.

We can help you with your aviation licensing issues. Contact us for a consultation.
